Renewable power generation in Latvia grows 10.6 percent in 2009

Last year Latvia generated 3,555 megawatt hours (MWh) of electric power from renewable energy sources, which is a growth by 10.6 percent from 2008.
Most of renewable electricity last year was generated by hydro power plants – 3,457 MWh or by 11.2 percent more than in 2008. Wind farms produced 50 MWh of electricity, down 15.3 percent year-on-year, and power generation from biomass fell 20 percent to 4 MWh in 2009. A total of 44 MWh of electricity were generated from biogas at a 10 percent rise from 2008.
