Estonia Sets Wind Power Production Record

EWPA's blog - Tuul August 4, 2015

green-energy1Strong and steady winds in the first half of 2015 led to a record production of wind energy. There was 385 GWh of wind energy produced in Estonia during the first six months, which is 40% more than in 2014 at the same time.

Wind turbines that belong to Eesti Energia produced 124,5 GWh and wind power plants of Nelja Energia generated 193,1 GWh of electricity. These two producers together accounted for over 82 % of Estonia’s total wind power production.

Wind energy receives subsidies to a maximum amount of 600 gigawatt-hours in a calendar year. According to Elering in the first six months of this year, 56 % of the quota has been filled, meaning that subsidies have been paid for 334 gigawatt-hours of electricity produced from wind energy. If favourable wind conditions continue, the amount of aided wind energy might be realized by the middle of the fourth quarter this year. Producers may then continue producing wind energy, but will not receive any subsidies until the end of the year.
