Lithuanian TSO Litgrid has connected a 60-megawatt, 24-turbine wind farm of 4energia, a subsidiary of Estonia’s Nelja Energia, to the country’s power transmission grid.

The power transmission system operator said in a press release on Thursday that a new 330-kilovolt transformer sub-station had been built for this purpose in the western district of Silute where the wind farm is located.

Wind farms with a total capacity of almost 120 MW were hooked up to the national grid in Western Lithuania during the first half of 2016 and an 8.5 MW, three-turbine farm is planned to be connected to the network in the eastern part of the country by the end of the year.

The number of wind farms connected to the transmission grid currently totals fifteen. These turbines last year generated 0.65 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity, accounting for 14 percent of the country’s total power production.

The wind farm consists of 24 units of 2.5 megawatt General Electric wind generators with a height of 110 meters and rotor diameter of 120 meters. The farm’s production makes up 12 percent of the total wind power capacity in Lithuania, Nelja Energia has previously said.

The total cost of the Silute wind farm is 100 million euros.

Nelja Energia is the largest wind energy producer and developer in the Baltic countries with 280 MW as the total capacity of operating wind farms. The company’s assets are worth more than 400 million euros.
