Claude Turmes supports offshore wind power in the Baltic Sea

EWPA's blog - etea October 6, 2017

Claude Turmes, the President of EUFORES and a member of the European Parliament signed last Friday at the EUFORES Inter-Parliamentary Meeting in Tallinn a support letter of the Baltic Sea Declaration to boost the development of offshore wind power in the Baltic Sea region.

The Baltic Sea Declaration was signed in June 2017 by the Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, German and Polish wind power associations to harness significantly more offshore wind power potential in the Baltic Sea Region and thereby increase both the region’s renewable energy production and economic growth.

The declaration also sees synergies between the development of offshore wind power and grids. This is important because in the future we will see wind farms clustering and the grid built for them becoming multifunctional, for example enabling us to synchronize the power system of the Baltic States with continental Europe.

EUFORES’ 17th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (IPM) in Tallinn focused on the regional integration that plays a key role for a European energy transition. The IPM17 Tallinn with the title of “Baltic Sea energy cooperation – stronger together on the way to a 100% RES energy system” was organised in close cooperation with the Parliament of Estonia and the Estonian Presidency of the EU Council.

EUFORES (European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources) is a European parliamentary network with members from all major political groups in the European Parliament as well as in the national EU Member States Parliaments. EUFORES promotes the deployment of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency across Europe
