The Estonian state-owned energy company Eesti Energia ordered a technical legal analysis from the Finnish company Etha Wind Oy Ab in February for finding out the possibility of establishing the Piiparinmaki wind farm in Finland.

“We are considering different options on all Baltic Sea markets where Eesti Energia is already operating to increase our production. Among other options, we are also analyzing the Finnish wind energy market, but so far no specific project is in a phase where we can talk about it. No investment decisions have been made,” spokesman for the company Kaarel Kuusk told BNS on Thursday.

“The strategic goal of Eesti Energia is to produce 40 percent of the total electricity output from renewable and alternative resources in 2021. Eesti Energia’s renewable energy arm Enefit Green has an important role to play in reaching that goal,” he added.

On Tuesday Eesti Energia began selling electricity to Finnish households. Entering the Finnish electricity market is part of Eesti Energia’s strategic goal of growing from a Baltic electricity seller to an energy seller and service provider covering the whole Baltic Sea region. Aside from Estonia, Eesti Energia operates as an electricity and gas seller in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, and is planning to start operations in Sweden in the near future.

On foreign markets Eesti Energia uses its Enefit brand.
