Cryptocurrency mining has been launched at the western Estonian Salme wind farm owned by Eesti Elekter AS.

“It is a very interesting project for us since we are constantly searching for opportunities around the world for further developing our wind turbine technology and service. It is great that the decentralized money transfer blockchain technology has found its way to our wind farm. Hopefully it will be a fruitful cooperation,” Oleg Sonajalg, a member of the board of Eesti Elekter, said in a press release.

“It is not reasonable to ignore the fast progress of renewable energy and cryptocurrency. These fields are already changing the world. The more synergy between future technologies we find, the more able to compete we will be in the future,” Sonajalg said.

Salme wind farm is a seven-turbine, six-megawatt wind farm on Saaremaa island.
