According to the Estonian Defense Ministry, it wants Aidu Tuulepark OU, a company owned by businessmen Oleg and Adres Sonajalg, to first stop the illegal construction activity because the company does not have a construction permit to build a wind farm before it can discuss anything else.

“The Defense Ministry has always been solution-oriented. We have constantly been in dialogue with developers, including Aidu Tuulepark OU, to find solutions for eliminating alerts in the defense forces’ advance warning systems caused by wind farms being built higher and higher,” the ministry said in an answer to BNS.

Eleon, another company owned by brothers Sonajalg, said on Tuesday it is ready to instal wind turbines with a total height of 185 meters instead of the 255-meter turbines previously planned to be installed to persuade the Defense Ministry to allow building the Aidu wind farm, the construction of which has been temporarily stopped by a court.

“The developer has submitted different theoretical calculations to the Defense Ministry over time as well as claims regarding new technical solutions, but so far none of these has solved the problems. As far as it is known, no such technology has been invented yet which would neutralize the negative effect of wind farms on air surveillance radars or radio systems,” the ministry said.

The ministry expects Aidu Tuulepark OU to first stop illegal construction, which it has continued irrespective of a court temporarily suspending the permit.
