Lithuania: Eesti Energia asks permission to acquire Nelja Energia

Estonia’s state-run energy group Eesti Energia is asking Lithuania’s Competition Council for permission to acquire Nelja Energiaoperating wind farms in Lithuania and Estonia.

The competition watchdog says it received on Jul. 5 a request from Eesti Energia’s subsidiary Enefit Green to acquire 100 percent of Nelja Energiashares.

It was reported in late May that Eesti Energia is buying Nelja Energia for 289 million euros and will also take over Nelja Energia‘s liabilities worth 204 million euros. Eesti Energia is acquiring Nelja Energia from Norway’s Vardar and other investors.

Lithuania’s state-run energy group Lietuvos Energija (Lithuanian Energy) also vied for Nelja Energia.

Nelja Energia, operating under the 4energia brand, has 17 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 287MW. The company also has minority stakes in two biogas and heat cogeneration plants in Estonia and owns a pellet plant and a cogeneration plant in Latvia.
